WATER VALLEY – The Blue Devils (8-17) faced off against the Nettleton Tigers(19-8) in the first round of the 3A MHSAA playoffs. The Tigers used two dominant pitching performances to win the series 2-0 and advance to the second round.
Water Valley hosted Nettleton on Friday April 21st, for game one of the best of three series. Coleton Ausbern pitched a complete game no-hitter for the Tigers, propelling Nettleton to the game one victory. The Tigers also had an impressive performance offensively, scoring 10 runs on nine hits, en route to the 10-0 win.
Due to rain, game two was moved to Monday, April 24, in Nettleton. Game two was very similar to the first, as Nettleton held Water Valley to only one run on four hits, and the Tigers played seven runs on ten hits. The 7-1 win earned Nettleton the series win over Water Valley and advanced them into the second round.
The Blue Devils will look to make a deeper playoff run next season, as they will return the entire starting lineup into the 2018 season. Water Valley will be a more experienced team when they take the field next season in Coach Jeb Lee’s second season at the helm of the program.
