Water Valley Earns Second Straight Blowout Victory

WATER VALLEY – For the second week in a row Head Coach Brad Embry’s squad earned a dominant win over an inferior opponent, defeating J.Z. George 40-0. Just like last week against the Pirates, Water Valley(2-1) dominated the Jaguars in all three facets of the game. 

The Blue Devils were led offensively by Trenderrious Brock, who finished with 95 yards on 12 carries with two touchdowns. Martavius Rockett was also impressive with 77 rushing yards on only four carries with two touchdowns. Water Valley also received great quarterback play from both starter, Ty Varner, and backup, Blayne Clark. 

Varner threw for 175 yards, going 10 of 14 passing, Clark came in and ran the offense very week extending the lead with a passing and rushing touchdown. Another big time performer for the Blue Devils was Bud Tolbert, who finished with 127 receiving yards on four catches with one touchdown.

Water Valley got on the board first with 5:18 remaining in the first quarter, when Brock strolled in from six yards out to give the Blue Devils the 7-0 lead. The Blue Devils didn’t strike again until Rockett scored on a 22-yard rushing touchdown with 9:02 left in the second quarter to give Water Valley a 13-0 lead. Rockett would find the end zone again with 0:14 left in the first half, when Varner connected with him on a 19 yard touchdown pass, giving the Blue Devils the 19-0 halftime lead. 

The Blue Devils would extend the lead out to 40-0 in the second half, on two Blayne Clark touchdowns and a  Brock rushing touchdown. 

The Blue Devils will host the Bruce Trojans this week, Bruce is coached by former Water Valley offensive coordinator, Clint Faust.
