WATER VALLEY – The Blue Devils (3-1) have already passed their win total from last season after they defeated the Bruce Trojans, 46-6, to earn their third straight 40 plus point victory. It was also  the third week in a row where the Blue Devils were superior in all three facets of the game over their opponent.

Water Valley got on the board first as Trenderrious Brock strolled in from 13 yards out to give the Blue Devils an early 7-0 lead. Martavius Rockett extended the lead on the next possession with a 13-yard rushing touchdown, pushing the Blue Devils lead to 14 points with 2:26 left in the first quarter. On the following Bruce possession, the Water Valley defense forced a turnover that the offense would quickly turn into another Blue Devil touchdown, giving Water Valley a 20-0 lead heading into the second quarter.

The Blue Devils would strike three more times in the second quarter, including two drives that only took one play to get in the endzone. A 37-yard run by Brock, and a 29 yard connection from Ty Varner to  Rockett capped off the impressive second quarter that ended with the Blue Devils leading 40-6.

The second half would go by pretty quickly as there was a running clock. The Blue Devils only scored once and held the Trojans scoreless, leading to the 46-6 victory. The win improved Water Valley to 3-1 on the season, and now they’ll prepare for their biggest test of the young season as they travel to take on the Calhoun City Wildcats (3-1) this Friday.

The Wildcats have had the Blue Devils’ number of late, winning the past three contests. Calhoun City is coming off the 2016 campaign where they ended the season by finally winning the 2A State Championship after coming up short so many times.

Coach Brad Embry and the Blue Devils will have their hands full this Friday night as go on the road and try to upset the defending 2A State Champs.
