Blue Devils Open Region Play With Blowout Win

The loyal Blue Devil fans were all smiles in Friday’s big win over Holly Springs.

WATER VALLEY – The Blue Devils (4-3) (1-0) opened  Region 2-3A play Friday as they hosted the Holly Springs Hawks at Bobby Clark Field. The Blue Devils dominated from the opening kickoff until the final whistle, as they defeated the Hawks 48-0. 

Water Valley got off to a quick start with back-to-back Trenderrious Brock 40-plus yards rushing touchdowns on their first two possessions to take the 13-0 lead early in the first quarter. The Blue Devils would strike again with 5:20 left in the first half, as Trenderrious Brock broke loose for a 61-yard touchdown run that extended the lead to 20-0 following the Joseph Washington extra point. 

The Blue Devils first half scoring didn’t stop as Ty Varner connected with Jayvon Morgan on a 28-yard touchdown pass. Water Valley carried a 27-0 lead into halftime.

Varner would pick up where he left off following the half as he connected with Bud Tolbert on a 17-yard touchdown pass to extend their lead to 34-0 early in the third quarter. Tolbert would catch another touchdown minutes later, as Blayne Clark connected with him on an 11-yard touchdown pass with 3:34 left in the third quarter. The final score of the night would come from the Blue Devil defense as Javarius Benson scored on a 46-yard fumble recovery, to make the score 48-0. 

The 48-0 blowout victory, improved the Blue Devils to (4-3) on the season and (1-0) in Region 2-3A play. 

Water Valley will travel to Marks this Friday to take on the M.S Palmer Dragons, looking to move to 2-0 in the division.
