MARKS – The Blue Devils got rolling early in last Friday’s game on the road against the M.S. Palmer Dragons (4-4) in Marks with an impressive 51-26 victory. The big win improved Water Valley’s record to 5-3 for the season and 2-0 in district  play.

There were plenty of big performances from multiple Blue Devils against the Dragons. Senior signal-caller Ty Varner threw for 195 yards and had four touchdown, Kenterrious Rucker finished with 127 rushing yards on 28 carries with a touchdown. Jayvon Morgan and Martavius Rockett both had two receiving touchdowns with a respective 85 and 57 receiving yards on the night. The Blue Devils defense also had a big night with six sacks, and Javarius Benson and Darius Tolbert both had an interception.

M.S. Palmer kicked off the scoring on their first drive with a touchdown by Josh Handy giving the Dragons a 6-0 lead. The Blue Devils would respond quickly with a long drive that ended with a touchdown pass from Varner to  Rockett to take the lead 7-6.

The score would stay the same until the Blue Devils exploded late in the second quarter for 23 points to take a 30-6 lead to the half. The first score came from Benson on a huge interception return to give Water Valley the 14-6 lead.  Varner would throw two touchdowns in the final four minutes, one to Morgan and one to Rockett. The Blue Devil defense also added to the lead with a safety.

The game got a little interesting late as MS Palmer wouldn’t go away easy, but on the legs of  Rucker the Blue Devils were able to put the game away, earning the 51-26 victory to remain perfect in Region 2-3A.

Head Coach Brad Embry and the Blue Devils will be back in action this Friday as they host the Coahoma Agricultural Tigers (1-7) (0-2).
