WATER VALLEY – Coming into last weekend, the Blue Devils (4-6) were struggling to score runs as their bats had gone cold after a quick start to the season.
That changed on March 24, as the Blue Devils bats exploded to help earn two big wins, over Senatobia and Bruce. Water Valley also had some key pitching performances from Blayne Clark and Dre McCray.
In the first contest of the day, the Blue Devils faced off against the 4A Senatobia Warriors (7-5). Water Valley came out firing with five runs in the first inning, never looking back en route to a 12-3 rout of an impressive Warriors squad.
Freshman Damian Willingham led the Blue Devils with three hits and four RBIs. Gavin Darby, Grant Burress, and Taylor Dean all finished the day with two hits.
McCray had an impressive day on the mound for the Blue Devils against Senatobia. The freshman pitched five innings, striking out four and only allowing two earned runs. Taylor Dean came in to finish the final two innings, earning the save.
In the second game of the day, the Blue Devils received a phenomenal performance from Clark, who pitched a complete game, striking out 11 batters and only allowing one earned run and three hits.
Offensively, McCray led Water Valley with three hits and four RBIs. Darby and Burress each added two hits.
The impressive weekend, improved the Blue Devils record to (4-6). They’ll be back in action on Friday night, as they host the Lafayette Commodores.
