City’s Power Outage Is Scheduled Nov. 3

By David Howell

WATER VALLEY – Electric Department Manager Andy Hall reminds anyone who plans to power a residence or business with a generator in Water Valley during the scheduled power outage from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Nov. 3 to contact city hall. The outage is scheduled by Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) for maintenance work. City electric crews will also take advantage of the outage to replace critical poles in Water Valley.

Hall stressed that the purpose of alerting city hall about generator usage is for the protection of his crew.

“We have to make sure we don’t have backflow from the generator. If the generators are not hooked up right, electricity can flow back through the lines and create a danger for our crews working that day,” Hall explained.

The outage does not affect Tallahatchie Valley Electric Power Association (TVEPA) customers. Hall said the city is partnering with TVEPA to provide power to Yalobusha General Hospital and Nursing Home and Odom Rural Health Clinic.

With full power at the health care facilities, hospital officials have offered to assist anyone in the community who has a health-care device they already own that requires electricity. Contact the hospital in advance at (662) 473-1411 to make arrangements to come to the nursing home with your medical equipment to plug in for free electricity during the outage.
