Rebuilding Through Writing

Dear Editor:

My name is James Mathis. I live in Water Valley, and I am a writer. I have been clean and sober since Feb. 17 of this year, following years of addiction and time in prison. Writing has become an important part of rebuilding my life.

I have published more than 80 essays on my Substack, The Truth Will Be Told, covering faith, redemption, recovery and justice. I am also continuing to challenge a 2017 conviction that I maintain was forced upon me. My case is now before the Mississippi Court of Appeals.

Later this month, I will share my story on two podcasts. I currently work at Sonic in Water Valley and spend much of my free time writing.

I am reaching out because I want people in my hometown to know about my work and have the opportunity to read it.
