Transparency Is A Necessity In Government
Dear Editor,
It was a real pleasure to attend the July 5th Board of Aldermen meeting. It included questions from residents of our community about issues facing their particular areas of town as well as detailed discussions on specifics related to the agenda items.
While no one disputes the mayor’s commitment to our city, his admonishment to “trust me” does not suffice as a viable approach to government. Because we are interested in the details, transparency is not a luxury but a necessity.
Thanks to all of our elected officials. We look forward to working with you to ensure that Water Valley grows in a way that benefits all of us.
As Thomas Jefferson noted, “An informed citizenry is the only true repository of the public will.”
