As I was averaging my City of Water Valley Utility bills for the last year I was shocked to see that we paid almost $500 for the “TVA Fuel Cost Adjustment,” this seems to me to be excessive for any utility company. There are a number of seniors in this town who are on a fixed income. I can understand a flat fee every month, but almost $500.00 a year is over the top.
This $500.00 could almost pay for at least four months of utility bills. I am sure other residents of Water Valley feel the same way. Something should be done to remedy the situation.
Letter to the Editor:
This letter is in regard and in response to the recent changes to the “beer ordinance” made by Water Valley city officials. First of all, in my opinion, the changes to the ordinance are far too invasive and overreaching in their requirements and restrictions for local businesses and will likely prevent some establishments from locating here in the future.
From published reports the opening of a new fine dining restaurant on Main Street is now on hold because of this action. This does not bode well for the future growth and development of our city. Many people have spent a great deal of time and money trying to bring prosperity and hope back to Water Valley and we have made a great deal of progress in that area. The boarded-up and vacant buildings are now gone from Main Street.
In closing, I fear that onerous ordinances and regulations such as this will only hamper our efforts to continue the revitalization of our city and may, in fact, cause a reversal in the positive achievements we have made thus far.
