WV Resident Believes Unit Vote Would Bring Higher Taxes

Dear Editor:

As a lifelong resident of Yalobusha County, I don’t see much I would like to change. We have pretty good roads to get around on—at least as good as most I have traveled on. Also, with a little over 12,000 residents in our county, which includes non-tax paying children, I don’t believe we can afford another two jobs, which cost $100,000 per year, plus a vehicle for each, which will add another $50,000, plus.

If we vote in the Unit System, with our tax base this small, you can bet on a large tax increase, which will be detrimental to our county.

As long as we elect competent supervisors, as we have in the past, I feel our county’s condition will remain as well as any in our state, even with our small tax base.
