The Straw That Broke This Valley Girl’s Back

I never thought that I would have anything to add to the “trailer invasion” conversation, but I feel compelled at this point to speak up.

In the Street Talk section of last week’s Herald, Mr. Howley definitely crossed the line when he wrote, “Like taking candy from a baby, a retarded one at that. ” SHAME SHAME SHAME on you Mr. Howley. that was the last straw. Now I have something to say…GROW UP PEOPLE!!!

I personally think our city officials  have done the best they can in regards to the “trailer”  issue. They are allowing the addition of a limited number of mobile homes  into a location that is zoned as a mobile home park. They are providing limited services to ONLY the location that is within the city limits while making sure that the Gold Wing Group fulfills their obligations to add new roads, sidewalks and storm drains.

The GWG are actually going a bit beyond by agreeing to remove the older existing  homes and bring in a total of 24 NEW mobile homes. I don’t know how this could have played out any differently. Be it good or be it bad…the city ordinance is what they had to work with. Sometimes it works in out favor and sometimes it doesn’t. In this case the GWG scored a win.

I have lived in Water Valley my entire life. At times I too have disagreed with the direction our elected officials have gone in, but I truly believe that they have tried to do what is in the best interest of the ENTIRE town. I do not think that the solution is to replace all of our city officials. We simply need to make sure that we are not taken by surprise again.

Water Valley is growing, and with that growth there WILL be change. We are becoming a town of “old timers” and “newcomers.

As happy as I am to see Water Valley prosper, I do not want our city to morph into a place that is unrecognizable. If you want to live in a wonderful little town by all means live here. But if you want to  live in “South Oxford,” please pack up your things and move a mere 18 miles north. Judging by all the construction going on up there, I am sure you can find a  place. Nuf said.

  Proud of our Valley,
