WATER VALLEY – Fall has finally arrived, heralding several city events that will take place in November and December.  Up first is the annual Business Holiday Open House, sponsored by the Water Valley Area Chamber of Commerce, on Saturday, Nov. 10  from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Our businesses will have their ”Holiday Shine” on, serving refreshments to customers and offering specials during the day.  You’ll also want to stop by and register for a variety of great door prizes from participating shops.

In addition, one very lucky winner will take home the grand prize provided by the Chamber of Commerce, a $500 gift certificate to be used locally for a Holiday Shopping Spree.  This grand prize drawing will take place on the Bandstand at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 10.

Early that Saturday morning, the Lions Club will host their traditional pancake breakfast from 6:30 to 9 a.m. at the Railroad Depot/Casey Jones Museum.  You can enjoy “all-you-can-eat” pancakes, sausage, coffee, and juice for $5 a plate.  This is a great way to start your day!

Junior Auxiliary will  sponsor their 1st annual Water Valley Dash, a 3K Run-Walk, at the RR Park Bandstand on Nov. 10.  Registration that morning will open at 6 a.m.; the race begins at 7 a.m.   There is a $25 registration fee.

The Rotary Club’s annual Chili Cook-off that same day will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Pocket Park on Main Street.  There is a $10 entry fee, and cash prizes will be offered to the top three winners.

Contact Cinnamon Foster for details about submitting your chili for judging; and everyone is welcome to buy a delicious bowl of chili to eat for $5, including fixings and a drink.

Finish off your chili with a tasty dessert at the Junior Auxiliary Bake Sale, also located in the Pocket Park on Saturday, November 10th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The JA Christmas T-shirts will also be available at this booth.

From noon to 2 p.m., live music on the Bandstand for the Holiday Open House will be provided by “Gospel Revival,” a trio of singers including Connie Edwards Champion of Water Valley, Joe McNeer of the Etta community, and Chip May of the Point Pleasant area near Enid Lake.

The Chamber of Commerce will have a Christmas Decorating Contest this year.  All downtown businesses are invited to participate; and cash prizes will be awarded for Best Door, Best Window, and Best Overall decorations.  Decorations should be up no later than Nov. 27.

The next big event is “Christmas in the Valley” on Friday night, Nov. 30.  “Frosty” will return, bringing snow with him, and “Anna” & “Elsa” will be our newest guests.

New photo ops for Christmas pictures will be available, as well as Junior Auxiliary’s annual “Photos with Santa” booth, at no charge.  JA members will also be selling coffee and hot cider, and the Band Boosters will sell barbecue.  Everyone’s favorite, the Horse-drawn Carriage Rides, will be back again so bring the whole family out for this special night!

That same weekend, the city’s annual Christmas Parade will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, sponsored by the Tri-Lake Fairground Association.  Contact J. C. Womble at 473-3190 or email him at  to register your parade entry.  There is no entry fee required.   Also on December 1st, the Blackmur Memorial Library is sponsoring a “Pictures with Santa” event in the library from 9-11 a.m..  There is no charge.

That night, from 4 to 7 p.m., the Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual Christmas Tour of Homes on Saturday, Dec. 1.  Tickets are $10 per person and include visits to the homes of Dorris Crawford, Hank Ducey, Larry and Betty Hart, Bob  and Dale Tyler, and the Episcopal Church on Main Street.

We hope you will plan to take advantage of all these wonderful holiday Events, and the Chamber of Commerce encourages you to shop locally for your Christmas purchases.  Enjoy Water Valley!
